The optical device (1) has a layer laminate (2) having bottom and top electrode layers (3,4) on a metallic layer (10) formed on a substrate (9). A stack (5) having functional layers (6-8) is arranged between the electrode layers. An insulator (13) consisting of an electrically non-conductive material is arranged on the bottom electrode layer at the side of the functional layer stack such that the top electrode layer is formed on the insulator and functional layer stack. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) method for manufacturing of optical device; and (2) semi-finished product used during manufacturing of optical device.
