The method involves carrying a lower side of a laundry stack by a support, and detecting the stack by a receiving device (15), where the receiving device is brought in contact with free-lying partial portions of the lower side of the stack for retaining the stack. A load carrying unit e.g. finger, of the receiving device is brought under the partial portions of the stack by pivoting of the load carrying unit. The load carrying unit is moved through recesses of the support, where the recesses are formed between conveyor belts of a conveyor. An independent claim is also included for a device for moving a stack, comprising a receiving device.
