The backrest (DS) has a control mechanism (MC) authorizing placing of an upper part (P1), by manual rotatable driving of the upper part, in a receiving position comprised between a reference position and a maximum inclination position, without possibility of regression of the upper part toward the reference position, in the coupling position. The control mechanism authorizes replacement of the upper part in the reference position by driving of the upper part by elastic return force, consecutive to its manual rotatable drive beyond the maximum inclination position in the uncoupling position. An independent claim is also included for a base of a seat comprising a front part.
