The method involves detecting pumping risk of a compression turbine (21). An exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve (3) and a proportioning valve (25) are opened to generate air flow through the EGR valve moving from an intake manifold (11) toward an exhaust manifold (12) when the pumping risk is detected. A depression level of an accelerator pedal is measured during detection of the pumping risk. The pumping risk is determined when the depression level of the accelerator pedal crosses with the fall to the threshold in certain operating conditions of the engine. An independent claim is also included for a motor vehicle comprising an internal combustion engine.
