Method for estimating the risk potential in relation to microbial contamination in a flowmeter (1), wherein - depending on a water temperature determined by a temperature sensor (10), on crossing over at least one threshold value temperature for the water temperature, accumulates at least a derived quantity of given volume through the flowmeter (1) and the water temperature in at least one register (11) of a storage device (5), - from the at least one magnitude accumulated in the register (11) a measure for the risk of microbial contamination is determined and evaluated and - in the case of each extraction process must be extracted a predetermined volume before accumulation takes place in the registry.
