Described herein is an optical proximity sensor (1) comprising a light source (2), a first light detector (3) for detecting light that is emitted by the light source (2) and reflected by an object (10) outside the optical proximity sensor (1), and a transparent cover (6) arranged over the light source (2) and the and first light detector (3). The optical proximity sensor (1) comprises a second light detector (4). A region of the transparent cover (6) is covered with a non-transparent coating (7) which is arranged over the second light detector (4). The first light detector (3) and the second light detector (4) are connected to an evaluation circuit (5).
