A load forecasting system (200) for a power distribution network (100) receives power usage data from a load (228) and accesses a power demand profile database (230). The system selects and stores a power demand profile (218, 219, 232, 234, 236) in a profile pool (216) based on how close its accuracy is to the desired accuracy. The system may use a desired accuracy, the power usage data, and a power demand profile (218, 219, 232, 234, 236) retrieved from the database (230).
