PURPOSE: A probe composition for reducing background signal and a method for detecting a target gene using the same are provided to selectively enhance detection signal and reduce non-specific background signal.;CONSTITUTION: A probe composition for reducing background signal contains: a target probe which specifically binds to a first specific region of an amplified product of a target gene and do not complementarily bind with the amplified product of an allele of the target gene or bind while accepting mismatching and a helper probe which reduces the background signal by complementary bond of the amplified product of the allele and the target probe and is not labeled.
