The method involves automatically detecting a fixed orientation aid (3) that is in a predetermined spatial relation to a plug socket (2) of a charging station. A vehicle i.e. car (10) is automatically moved to a position with respect to the detected orientation aid so that a plug device (1) of the car is brought to a predetermined position with respect to the plug socket of the charging station. The plug device of the car is electrically coupled to the plug socket of the charging station, where the plug device includes a plug and a retractable device for the extension of the plug. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a plug device for the electrical coupling of a vehicle with an electrical charging station (2) a plug socket for the electrical coupling of a vehicle with an electrical charging station (3) a system for electrically coupling a vehicle with a charging station.
