The device (1) has multiple electrical contacts for supplying direct-current (DC) and/or alternating-current (AC) to charge a battery of an electric car. A drive unit moves the electrical contacts from an initial position into an end position for connecting to electrical contacts of another charging device. The drive unit comprises an electric motor (3) and a carriage (5), which is moved by a screw (4), where the carriage is supported by rollers. An electrical locking device latches a mechanical linkage between the two charging devices. An independent claim is also included for a method for connecting a charging device with objects.
