Detecting a no-progress state of an application

A method, system, and computer-usable program product for detecting an application's no progress state is provided in the illustrative embodiments. Resource usage and output of an application group are monitored. The resource usage and the output power are measured to determine a resource usage value and an output power value at a predetermined time. A determination is made as to whether the resource utilization value is contained in a sub-area of a scale for the resource utilization and the output power value is contained in a sub-area of an output power scale, the sub-area of the scale for the resource utilization corresponding to the sub-area of the output power scale. The no-progress state of the application is recognized if the determination is negative.
