The method involves controlling the torque of the traveling motor through a region surrounding a wheel torque reversal of the vehicle (10). The input torque of the drive train (26) is adjusted during the reversal of the output torque of the drive train to reduce the rate of change of the output torque. The torque of the driving motor (14) is controlled during torque reversal of component of the drive train to reduce the rate of change of torque.
