The unit has a balance installed in a suspension point (101) of a flexible cord (108) located at top (107) of a sheath of lift. A compression spring is used as the suspension point of the flexible cord. A measurement tool e.g. linear sensor, reads the deformation of compression spring by the mass of the flexible rod to indicate a value corresponding to a position of a cabin (105) of the lift within the space of the sheath. The flexible cord passes through a hole reserved toward the sheath.
