PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricant base oil having a high viscosity index and an excellent low temperature fluidity, and to provide a lubricant composition using the lubricant base oil, the composition excellent in a high viscosity index, high shear stability and high oxidation stability with a high flash point and a low density.;SOLUTION: The lubricant base oil is based on hydrocarbons and has a viscosity index of 130 or higher, contains 90% or more of paraffinic components (%Cp) by ring analysis and has a CCS viscosity of 3,000 mPa s or less at -35°C.
