PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a semiconductor laser driving device capable of preventing a semiconductor laser from deteriorating by predicting that an excessive current flows in the case of an abnormal connection of a sample holding capacitor of an APC (Automatic Power Control) system to cause the deterioration of the semiconductor laser, and also reporting the abnormality occurrence to the outside, and to provide an image forming apparatus with the semiconductor laser driving device.;SOLUTION: If the sample holding capacitor Csh is not connected normally and a connection terminal T5 is in an open state or high-resistance short-circuit state, a bias current set voltage Vbi rises at one stretch, and an abnormality detection signal Err from a comparator 17 inversely changes from a high level to a low level in response to detection of such a rise in bias current set voltage Vbi.
