PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device capable of preventing a wheel from running off or protecting an occupant in an early stage when a wheel runs off by detecting in advance a possibility that a wheel of a vehicle runs off, which may cause the large shake of the vehicle body. PSOLUTION: The device includes: a means for successively acquiring an image of the surrounding ground of a traveling vehicle; a means for calculating a surrounding ground level of the vehicle using a moving amount of the same image imaged in at least two images of the ground; and a means for determining the absence of presence of a possibility that a wheel runs off based on the surrounding ground level, and determines there is a possibility that a wheel runs off when a distance between a region where a difference between the surrounding ground level and the height of the currently traveling road surface exceeds a predetermined height and a vehicle becomes shorter than a predetermined distance.
