The frame (1) surrounds a grille (2) or cover with hinges (4) at one side and a cavity (6) in the opposite side for a spring clip (7) that holds the grille or cover in the closed position. The clip is made from rod bent into the shape of a pin with a curved end projection (7e) that engages with a matching notch (2e) in the closed grille or lid. The clip is held under tension in the frame cavity by its two opposite parallel sides (7a, 7b) with only its end projection protruding. The frame can be made with hinge pivots (5) and a clip cavity on two opposite sides to allow the grille or cover to be hinged on either side.
