Drive mechanism for stair handrails and mobile corridors, comprising two main handrails (5) mounted on a common drive shaft (2) and at least first intermediate wheels (6-6 ') for both handrails. The main wheel (5) is not in contact with the handrail (3), while the first intermediate wheels (6-6 ') are in contact with the main wheel (5) and with the handrail (3). In opposition to each of the intermediate wheels (6-6 ') at least one pressure roller (9) is arranged.
