The adaptive noise reduction system for digital images according to one preferred embodiment of the present invention comprises: a temporal noise reduction unit for reducing temporal noise in image information; a spatial noise reduction unit for reducing spatial noise in the image information; and an image combining unit for combining a first output image from the temporal noise reduction unit and a second output image from the spatial noise reduction unit. According to the adaptive noise reduction system for digital images and to the method for removing noise according to one preferred embodiment of the present invention, both temporal and spatial noise can be simultaneously reduced so as to output a clear image.
