The present invention relates to a food and a pharmaceutical composition for improving liver function which contain a culture, as an active ingredient, cultured by inoculating a mixture of grains and a hovenia dulcis extract with shiitake mushroom mycelia. The culture of the present invention can be useful in a food and a pharmaceutical composition for improving liver function due to enhanced effects of protecting liver cells and improving liver function.
