PURPOSE: A control device and method for the damper clutch of an automatic transmission are provided to enable an automatic transmission to actively control the release of a damper clutch by reflecting the intention of a driver for acceleration and deceleration, thereby improving the feeling of acceleration. CONSTITUTION: A control method for the damper clutch of an automatic transmission includes the following steps: a step of determining whether a driving condition enters a non-operating region of a damper clutch, which is predetermined in map data, in power-off deceleration combined with the damper clutch (S303); a step of determining a duty offset for the release control of the damper clutch by applying engine torque, and determining a slope for the release control of the damper clutch by using the amount of slips between the revolutions per minute (RPM) of an engine and the RPM of a turbine (S305); and a step of performing the release control of the damper clutch by applying the determined duty offset, and performing the release control of the damper clutch by applying the determined slope (S309) when the release control through the duty offset is completed (S308).
