The present invention relates to a portable U-shaped tubular heater including a combustion portion having a vertical tube with upper and lower portions being opened, to which a solid fuel is put, a flame guide plate of a flare shape around a lower portion of the vertical pipe, and an ignition hole formed in the vertical pipe below the flame guide plate and communicating with the inside of the flame guide plate; a curved heat guide pipe having an combustion portion engaging shoulder so that the lower portion of the combustion portion is inserted in the upper end; a J-shaped tubular funnel portion made of a vertical discharge pipe extending from the other side of the heat guide pipe; and a filtering plate positioned between the combustion portion and the heat guide pipe and seated onto the combustion portion engaging shoulder, wherein the filter plate has a plurality of through-holes. The portable heater has a lean pipe shape which consists of the combustion portion and the funnel portion which are separated from each other, thereby decreasing the volume. The portable heater can be easily stored or carried, and cannot be limited to an installation location, thereby being effectively used at outdoor activity. Since recycled solid fuel, such as pellet, can be used as the fuel for generating the flame, fuel costs can be decreased.
