The method involves metal cutting a longitudinal section of a rod-shaped blank under formation of two rod portions (2, 3). The first rod portion is uniformly removed, where diameter (d1) of the first rod portion is smaller than original diameter (d2) of the rod-shaped blank. A raw surface of the first rod portion is formed with first average rough depth, where rollers of the raw surface of the first rod portion form second average rough depth that is smaller than the first averaged rough depth. The first rod portion is shaped, processed and cured. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a stepped rod (2) a rack gear.
