The system (10) has a steering shaft (12) provided with a pinion (14) at an axial end. A rack (16) is provided with a gear portion (18) for introducing total driving force (FT). An electric motor (20) is provided with a drive wheel (22) for providing auxiliary steering force (FS). The pinion and the gear portion are parts of a transmission gear (24). The transmission gear is meshed with the drive wheel of the electric motor. A transmission shaft (28) is provided with three rotational gears (26, 30, 32), where one of the gears is engaged with the pinion and the rack.
