The method involves determining oxygen content by density measurement of a medium, where the density is determined using a Coriolis mass flow meter (5). The density of the medium is determined by detecting a frequency of an oscillating element of the micro-mechanical Coriolis mass flow meter. An independent claim is included for a device for determining an oxygen concentration in a liquid or gaseous medium, preferably for monitoring a safety-relevant equipment.
