The method involves providing silicon particles with an average particle size. Graphite particles are provided with an average particle size within a range of 1-50 micrometer. The silicon particles are mixed with a copper salt, a nickel salt or a mixture of metal salts incorporating the nickel and copper salts. The salts are reduced under deposition of copper, nickel or a metal alloy incorporating the copper and/or the nickel. The silicon particles are mixed with the graphite particles, an electrode binder, an additive and a suspending agent. The mixture is applied on a current collector. An independent claim is also included for an electrode for a lithium ion battery.
