The display device (1) has an evaluation unit which is provided for determining the mood of driver in dependence of driving parameter. An input unit is provided for manually entering a mood of driver. The evaluation unit or the input unit is coupled to a control unit for controlling light sources (1.1-1.5) which are arranged on outer side of the vehicle. The light sources are controlled by the control unit depending on the mood. An independent claim is included for method for operating illuminated display device.
