The steering has a conversion unit for converting deflection of an operating element i.e. joystick (108), into a steering movement and comprising a control device (107) and a control valve block (106). The valve block is connected with an oil pressure supply, an oil motor (105) and a steering unit (101) i.e. rotary valve steering. The steering unit is arranged such that the steering unit is driven by the oil motor and controls a steering cylinder (1). A standard steering is connected with the oil pressure supply and comprises another operating element i.e. steering wheel (4). The oil motor is designed as an orbit motor. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a hydraulic steering of a construction machine.
