The method involves receiving a request that indicates an electric function that is to be tested for a component (8) e.g. internal combustion engine starter, of a vehicle i.e. car. An operator is allowed to operate the electric function of the component. A controller (3) is utilized for reading a measured value of current from a sensor (4). The measured current value is compared with a target current value. The controller is utilized for announcing a defect of the tested electric function when the measured current value does not correspond to the target current value. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for checking an operating condition of the component in the vehicle (2) a data processing program comprising instructions for performing the method for checking operating condition of the component in the vehicle.
