PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a film having durability such as strength, breaking resistance, cold resistance, heat resistance, and retort resistance, transparency that gives visibility for contents, and barrier property to water vapor so as to maintain qualities in long-term storage, and a resin composition used for the film, and to provide a coating material for protecting a vapor deposition surface, which can give a film excellent in gas or water vapor barrier property, a gas or water vapor barrier film having a coating of the above coating material on a film, and a gas barrier film having resistance to a folding treatment.SOLUTION: A water vapor barrier resin is provided, which comprises a resin compound having a repeating unit of a specific structure; and a water vapor barrier film using the above resin is provided. The resin comprising the resin compound having a specific structure is used as a coating material for protecting a vapor deposition surface of a vapor deposition film.
