PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow quick and beautiful finish at the time of reforming or when a surface material 10 is pasted on a footboard 8, in a stair structure in which the footboard 8 including a footboard base material 9 and the surface material 10 which is pasted on an upper surface of the footboard base material 9 is built in a stringer 1.SOLUTION: A length L2 of the surface material 10 in stair width direction is made shorter than a length L1 of the footboard base material 9. The stringer 1 is provided with a base material engagement groove part 3 in which the footboard base material 9 is inserted, and a surface material engagement groove part 4 in which the surface material 10 is inserted. A depth d2 of the surface material engagement groove part 4 is made shallower than a depth d1 of the base material engagement groove part 3, so that it is only required to rough-cut an end part of the surface material 10 at construction for building in the surface material engagement groove part 4 of the stringer 1. At the time of reforming, with the footboard base material 9 being as it is, an old surface material 10 is peeled from the footboard base material 9 and the end part thereof is pulled out of the surface material engagement groove part 4 of the stringer 1, and then a new surface material 10 is inserted in the same surface material engagement groove part 4 to allow pasting to the footboard base material 9.
