An apparatus is provided having a touch panel (202), an interconnect (204), and a touch panel controller (104). The touch panel has a plurality of sensors arranged in a plurality of rows and columns. Each row has a row electrode that extends through a portion of the touch screen and is coupled to a row pad located along the perimeter of the touch panel via a routing network. Each column has a plurality of column electrodes interleaved with at least one of the row electrodes and each coupled to a column pad located along the periphery of the touch panel via a routing network. An interconnect (204) is secured to the touch panel (202) and is coupled to each column pad and each row pad. The touch screen controller (104) has an interface (106) coupled to the interconnect and control circuitry coupled to the interface.
