PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document platen opening/closing device and an office machine which give a user a good feeling when the user operates a document platen.SOLUTION: A document platen opening/closing device includes: an attachment member which includes at least a bottom plate to be attached to an office machine body side of an office machine including a document platen, and both side plates stood from both side parts of the bottom plate; a support member which includes at least a top plate and both side plates drooping from both side parts of the top plate, has these both side plates turnably attached to both side plates of the attachment member via hinge pins, and supports the document platen; and elastic means which is provided between the free end side of the support member and the hinge pin side of the attachment member and controls an opening/closing operation of the document platen. The elastic means is configured so as to have elasticity varying means which varies an elastic force generated by itself in the course of expansion and contraction.
