In the method according to the invention, a plurality of drum sections (1) welded to each other are welded to each other, and before welding, at least separate sections (1) of the drum in their own end edges (1a, 1b) for welding are machined using at least one machining tool (4). Also, the drum section (1) intended for machining is equipped with stiffening elements (2) directed inwards, and at the same time at least one machining tool (4) is attached to the temporary shaft (3) by means of an installation support (4a) and the end edges (1a, 1b), the machining tool (4) is rotated relative to or together with the temporary shaft (3) relative to the drum section (1).
