A system for regulating heating in a tissue cutting and sealing device, comprises a resistive heating element; a resistive element wired in parallel with the heating element; the resistive element being wired into the device, wherein the resistive heating element is a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) element or a negative temperature coefficient (NTC) element; and a power supply, wherein the resistive element delays the onset of heating and limits maximum heating to increase a time period during which temperatures are in a tissue sealing range.
