Pharmaceutical composition containing Nymphaea tetragona extract, fractions thereof or isolated polyphenolic compounds for prevention or treatment of metabolic disease

PURPOSE: A Nymphaea tetragona extract, a fraction thereof, or a polyphenol-based compound isolated from the fraction is provided to effectively suppress mtGPAT1 activity which causes metabolic diseases, to suppress biosynthesis of neutral fat in a cell, and to increase intake of insulin-dependent glucose in a skeletal muscle cell. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for preventing and treating metabolic diseases contains a Nymphaea tetragona extract as an active ingredient. The extract is prepared using water, C1-C4 alcohols, or a mixture thereof. The pharmaceutical composition contains a fraction which is prepared from the extract using an organic solvent. The organic solvent is selected from the group consisting of hexane, chloroform, and butanol. The pharmaceutical composition also contains a polyphenol-based compound of chemical formula 1 or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient.
