The present invention relates to a method for increasing a -aminobutyric acid content in a by-product of rice by using a physical treatment. According to various embodiments of the present invention, glutamate in the by-product of rice is converted into GABA by activating glutamate decarboxylase in the by-product of rice through a method for increasing GABA content comprising water content control, acidity control, gas injection, and storage temperature control, thereby efficiently manufacturing the by-product of rice with 10 times higher GABA content in a short time without complicated processes such as a synthesis method, an extraction method, an enzyme method, and a fermentation method. Additionally, the present invention can be used in the field of foods such as food materials, health supplement foods, functional foods, drugs, beverages, and milk using rice bran, embryo bud of rice, or the by-product of rice containing the same with increased GABA content, and the by-product of rice effectively inhibits the growth of general bacteria, thereby being able to be useful as a composition for inhibiting the growth of bacteria.
