The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition including a Cryptomeria japonica extract as an active ingredient for preventing or treating live disease. In addition, disclosed is a functional food composition including the Cryptomeria japonica extract as an active ingredient for preventing and treating an alcoholic fatty liver. The Cryptomeria japonica extract is extracted by using a solvent selected from water, C1-C10 alcohol, ethyl acetate, CH2Cl2, hexane, and combination thereof.
