Scratch-resistant glass object as a glass ceramic plate for hobs, as a glass pane for fireplaces and ovens as well as for vehicles, airplanes or ships, as a cover for scanner cash registers and as a viewing window, comprising: - a substrate made of glass or glass ceramic, and - an AlSiN top layer that is amorphous and free of AlN crystallites has been deposited on the substrate and forms the surface of the glass article, with a mixing ratio of Al: Si in a range from 20:80 to 95:05 at%, preferably 40:60 to 85:15 at% , and most preferably 50:50 to 75:25 at%, and - with a surface roughness Ra 1.5 nm, better Ra 1.0 nm.
