A method is proposed for providing input data for a traffic model (205) of a traffic network, wherein at least one building is connected to the traffic network and wherein the traffic network has a plurality of different means of transport (4, 5, 6). The method comprises the following steps: determining (101) a number of available means of transport (4, 5, 6) of the plurality of different means of transport (4, 5, 6), wherein a means of transport (4, 5, 6) for a building is available, if the means of transport (4, 5, 6) is arranged at most at a predefined distance from the building within the traffic network, determining (102) an occupancy profile (1, 2, 3) of the at least one building depending on the determined available Transport means (4, 5, 6), wherein the occupancy profile (1, 2, 3) represents a temporal course of occupancy of the at least one building, and providing (103) of the determined occupancy profile (1, 2, 3) as input data for the traffic model (205) the transport network. The proposed method can be simulated in a simple manner a traffic network with traffic flow, without performing complex measurements. The occupancy profile, which can be based on statistical data, allows inflows and outflows of traffic to and from buildings to be estimated and simulated.
