The invention relates to the pretreatment of oxide ores containing precious metal, before leaching the precious metal with thiosulfate. The method comprises mixing the oxide ore in oxygenated water and in the presence of a carbon material (for example, activated carbon or another type of coal). The carbon material can be separated from the ore pulp, after which the gold is leached using a thiosulfate leaching agent.
