Induction of polyploidy is known in plants for developing new cultivars and to bring variability in the crop growth and yield. Sometimes polyploidy is also being used to bring compatibility of the crossing species there by increasing the success of wild hybridisation. There are number of mutagens known for successful induction of polyploidy in plants among them colchicine is the most widely used one besides Nitrous Oxide Amiprophos methyl Colcemid BromoNaphthalene Brefeldin A Pronamide Cytochalasin Acetnaphthene 8-hydroxy Quinolin Chloral Hydrate Varatine Sulfamilamide Mercuric Chloride etc. In the present invention various concentrations of colchicine is treated at different time scale in various plant materials (seed seedling and apical meristem) under a range of electrical field in a closed chamber for polyploidy induction in various plant species (Dicotyledonous and Monocotyledonous)...........etc
