A hand tool with retractable tether assembly includes a tether housing attached to the tool body. The tether housing defines a tether opening and a tether spool compartment. A tether spool is disposed in and rotatable within the tether spool compartment. A flexible tether has a tether body extending between a first tether end portion and second tether end portion, where the first tether end portion is attached to the tether spool. The tether spool is operable between first and second positions. In the first position, a tether body is coiled about the tether spool. In the second position, the tether body is at least partially uncoiled from the tether spool with the second tether end portion extending through the tether opening and away from the tether housing. A coil spring is connected to the tether spool and biases the tether spool to rotate towards the first tether position.
