The present invention relates to a surface-modified positive electrode active material, a method for manufacturing the same, and a positive electrode for a lithium secondary battery containing the positive electrode active material. More specifically, provided are a positive electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery comprising: lithium transition metal oxide particles represented by the following chemical formula 1; and an aluminum oxide (m-Al_2O_3) coating layer formed on the surface of the lithium transition metal oxide particles and having a negative value of surface charge, a method for manufacturing the positive electrode active material, and a positive electrode for a lithium secondary battery containing the positive electrode active material.
