PERFORIN-2 ACTIVATORS AND INHIBITORS AS DRUG TARGETS FOR INFECTIOUS DISEASE AND GUT INFLAMMATION

Methods and compositions for modulating the activity of perforin-2 are provided. Various components of the perforin-2 activation pathway are provided herein. In a specific embodiment, an inhibitor of various components of the perforin-2 activation pathway is provided, which can be used in a variety of ways including, but not limited to, diagnosis and treatment of diseases associated with gut inflammation. A method of screening for a perforin-2 inhibitor is also provided. Compounds that increase perforin-2 activity by increasing ubiquitination of perforin-2 are also provided. Various methods for increasing perforin-2 activity and for treatment of infectious diseases, particularly bacterial and antibiotic-resistant bacteria, are also provided.
