The present invention relates to the treatment of metabolic diseases using galectin-3, and more specifically, relates to a method for regulating the activation and the expression of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR) using galectin-3, and relates to a method for preventing or treating metabolic diseases using the same. The composition of the present invention can be used for treating or preventing diseases generated by the excessive expression or the lack of the PPAR, such as metabolic diseases or the like.
