Provided are a system for providing traffic information of a road work zone using a dedicated road traffic communication-based roadside unit (RSU) and an onboard unit (OBU) and a method for the same. An RSU and an OBU based on dedicated short range communications (DSRC)/wireless access for vehicular environment (WAVE) communications as dedicated road traffic communications are used so that a congestion zone length and traffic congestion time information on a road work zone are collected in real time and provided for a following vehicle, and thus a traffic accident such as collision is prevented in the work zone, traffic congestion attributable to the road work can be minimized. Moreover the traffic congestion time information can be provided for a vehicle to pass through the work zone so that the following vehicle in the road work zone does not have to experience an unnecessary delay due to the use of a bypass or start time adjustment.
