The invention relates to a method for automatically recognizing an acoustic signal for detecting a type of acoustic measurement of a building. According to the invention, the method consists in: - controlling a noise source placed in the building environment to ensure the emission of a random or pseudo-random acoustic signal or a standardized shock machine placed on a building floor to ensure the emission of a standardized shock noise, - acquire the acoustic signal in response using the sound level meter, - analyze in frequency bands, the acoustic signal acquired by the sound level meter by applying detection threshold criteria for different types of building acoustics measurements, in order to deduce the type of building acoustics measurements made, - and to display the type of building acoustics measurements made.
