Mounting plate 1 for attaching photographic devices to a tripod or monopod, the mounting plate 1 comprises a planar surface 20 at a centre of which is a first connector, such as a threaded bore 30 that is used to attach the mounting plate 1 to the tripod or monopod. Six equidistance second connectors such as threaded bore 40 are arranged at vertices of a hexagon so as to provide at least two fold symmetry about the centre of the planar surface 20. Projecting from the planar surface 20 are inclined spurs 50 having weight reducing holes 55. The spurs 50 may be arranged to give the mounting plate 1 a generally triangular form Reference is also made to a tripod or monopod canopy having projection for attachment of legs and which are axially offset from a base and radially offset from an axis.
