objectives: evaluation of treatment of keloids by applying a solution of phenol to 40% according to a predefined protocol.patients and methods: from june 2010 to march 2012, 25 patients received this treatment. results: the trunk keloids were (48%) and upper limbs (34%).the total number of keloids treated was 52. the average area of keloid was 11, 16 cm2, phenol was the exclusive treatment and first-line, in 40% of cases.patient adherence to protocol of phenol was observed in 81% of cases. the number of sessions of phenol was an average of 14.2.the subjective assessment of the treatment by the patient himself, was satisfactory in 72%.subjective assessment by the physician, was a decline in the percentage of keloid of 75.5% and a decline of over 90% in 59% of cases.a local discolouration was noted in 75% of cases. other local side effects (itching, ulceration, infection) were noted in 6 patients (28.6%).no cases of systemic events relating to the application of phenol was observed. after a decrease of 12.8 months, no recurrence and no recovery in the development of keloid was noted.conclusion: the phu00e9nolisation of keloids is interesting in its simplicity of application, low cost, satisfactory results and few side effects.key words: pathological scars and keloids;; phenol; treatment; protocol.
